I crossed over the 500,000 point threshold today, finally, not so much with a "bang" but rather with a "whimper". 6,000 bonus points from Bob's Localism challenge pushed me to 503,000 when I wasn't looking...
October 16th, 2009 seems so long ago now, when at the urging of my very good friends, Al and Peggy Cunningham, I joined AR. I had recently re-entered Real Estate and they told me that this was the future.
They introduced me to many people here, many of whose blogs I still regularly read. In the first few years they would alert me to any contest they happened upon, and I would enter them all.
There have been several ebbs and flows. When I look back, it seems that January to May is generally the period where I slow down my blogging, mainly due to having to spend more time prospecting and in client facing activities.
But I have never really fallen off... I remember the post by Malcolm Johnston as he beat me to 100,000 points and challenged me to 200,000. Above all, that motivated me... I cannot resist the challenge. At that time, Valerie was zooming up the Ontario AR List. I feel we have become friends since as we have read about each others trials and tribulations, shared family moments and more. We missed a chance to meet last year. Perhaps this year...
Blogging on AR is my major web presence and internet prospecting effort and has resulted in numerous internet inquiries which have resulted in many closed transactions. There has been periods when I have not had any listings in a market and still have generated inquiries from people who have felt I was a local expert. Thanks Al and Peggy, thanks AR and thanks Bob Stewart.
Active Rain will continue to be at the core of my internet presence and I will continue to improve the content of my localism posts in the future and hope it will continue to generate business for me. The lessons learned, the Friends I have made and the referral network I have formed has been a great bonus.
I have met Brian, Marc and Kathy (Al and Peggy are given), perhaps I will have a chance to meet Malcolm, Susan and/or Valerie on one of my holidays this year as we are planning a trip to Montreal and Ottawa that might bring us close enough to attempt to contact each other.
In the coming years I hope to meet many of my AR friends elsewhere in North America, Russel, Dale, David, Wanda, Jay, Carl and Ceil, Bob, Roy, Debbie. Peter and Linda, Reuben, Chrissy and Michael and too many others to mention...
As for my personal race to the top of the AR Ontario Leaderboard, I have long given up on ever catching Al and Peggy, or for that matter Susan Emo, Marc Swartz, Brian Madigan (even with his temporary hiatus) or Kathy Clulow... perhaps I can manage to stay ahead of Janice, Valerie and Malcolm on our quest to 1,000,000 points ;-)
