Sunnidale Winterama 2012 starts today

The theme for the 36th Annual Winter Carnival is the Wild, Wild West.

This year's carnival kicks off with a Spaghetti supper between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the New Lowell Legion on County Road 9.  Dinner is free for children five or under, $5.00 for children six to twelve and $8.00 for people older than twelve.

Following the dinner is the "Burning of the Green" at New Lowell Recreational Park on County Road 9 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.  There will be fireworks at 7:30 p.m. and skating at the outdoor rink (weather permitting).

Friday Night will feature Movie Night at the New Lowell Royal Canadian Legion.  A family movie will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by intermission and local entertainment.  The late show will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Saturday begins with a Pancake breakfast at the Legion from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. 
Breakfast is free for children five or under, $3.50 for children six to twelve and $5.00 for people older than twelve.

A Parade will follow, starting at Greengage Rd. @ 10:30 a.m. and making its way along County Road 9 to the New Lowell Recreation Park.

After opening ceremonies at the park, family festivities will begin and include, turkey bowl, snow pitch, swoom, log sawing, an obstacle course, horse drawn wagon rides and donut eating.

Other Saturday events include a Snowmobile Radar run starting at 1:00 pm (cost is $13.00) and the popular Euchre Tournament from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Legion, a silent auction running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Station 3 on County Rd 9, and a dance at the Legion starting at 9:00 p.m. featuring Vertigo, a live rock band (cost is $10.00).

The Legion will end festivities Sunday morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon with a Big Breakfast featuring Bacon, Sausages and Eggs, and a snowmobile fun run between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. starting at the legion.

Sounds as if you will need all those nice hotmeals to keep warm if the winds are whipping during that winter parade.

Wow, I'm kind of jealous we don't these awesome kind of events over near Reading!  Winterama 2012 sounds like a great event- not to be missed!

Carl, yes, food seems to be the centre of this carnival.  Really, it tends to raise the most funds.
