Simple and affordable do-it-yourself projects can greatly increase a home's resale value. Here are six low-cost projects that just may give you the edge in today's competitive real estate market.

1. Cleaning & Decluttering
Cost up to $200.00 for the average home - projected return on this investment $1,000

Remove your personal items, photos and mementos, declutter countertops and tables, shelves and other display areas, organize closets and put off season clothes abd items into storage, and make your home sparkling clean, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms.

2. Brightening Up
Cost up to $400.00 for the average home - projected return on this investment $2,000

Clean all windows inside and out, remove worn out curtains and blinds and replace them with light sheer panels, update or replace light fixtures, and remove anything that blocks natural light from the windows. Add floor lamps in dark corners.

3. Smart Staging
Cost up to $600.00 for the average home - projected return on this investment $3,000

Rearrange furniture, remove and store large or bulky space robbing pieces, bring in new accessories and more scaled furnishings to enhance rooms and create more open space. Incorporate artwork and play soft music in the background.
