Chris' Corner: Blackhorse Village Theatre

Blackhorse Village Theatre

Blackhorse Villlage Theatre, Caledon

Blackhorse Village Theatre, located on the South-West corner of Mount Wolfe Rd and Hwy 9, about 3 miles SSW of Tottenham, is home to the Blackhorse Village Players, a fine local theatrical troupe that started life as the Village Players in Tottenham in the early 1970's based out of the Tottenham Town Hall and subsequently the Royal Canadian Legion before purchasing the building and grounds that is now known as the Blackhorse Village Theatre in 1983.

I have long been a fan and supporter of Little Theatre, over the years having seen various local productions in Erin, Orangeville, Blackhorse, Newmarket, and Brampton. To me, they represent a great entertainment value (Blackhorse Village Theatre Matinee and Evening tickets are $17.00, $13.00 for seniors, Tickets for preview performances are $15.00). Local little theatre is, imho, one of the many "undiscovered" treasures of small town Ontario.

I would recommend that you visit their website and plan on attending a play in the near future. You will be thoroughly entertained and pleasantly surprised!

Hi Chris,

Great post..thanks for sharing!  I love plays...we just saw "A Christmas Carol" at the Trinity Theatre in Providence, RI on Friday night...great time.

Happy holidays!

Isn't local theater a real treasure?  We are blessed with a local high school (New Trier in Winnetka) that presents plays that rival the professionals.

It's a fun night out and more should be done within the local theaters...it brings the neighborhood together

This is a great bit of localism.  I finally attended a play at Arvada's little theater, after living here more than 10 years. I plan to go back soon. But that building looks pretty large, so I bet they draw in a good-sized crowd.

Lori, I have seen plays in the large theatres in Toronto, but find the overall experience much more warm and entertaining in local little theatre also.

Joetta, Blackhorse is really an intimate theatre, like most little theatre, there isn't a "bad" seat in the house

Keith, a university friend often partakes in Newmarket Little theatre and another friend of ours directs for the Erin theatre group.  Whenever possible, we will support their shows.

Hi Chris,

Great job in supporting your community theatre, they are often just so much fun to attend and enjoy some plays you would otherwise never see.

Merry Christmas and a Pfanntastic New Year

Peter and Linda, you also have easy access to "big-city" shows, but you cannot beat the little theatre experience =)

Jo, little theatre, along with Parades and Community celebrations (like Canada Day/4th of July, Labour Day, etc) are at the heart of small town living.

Chris, very nice Localism piece on the Blackhorse Villate Theatre. We have a couple of similar theaters in our area that could also use the press
