Monday started out nice and sunny as I drove to Barrie for a seminar on Effective Negotiating. I arrived at the Holiday Inn about 8:15 a.m. and parked by the rear entrance, close to the conference rooms I knew we would be in.
There were fifty people at today's seminar and we were primed to take this course. We actually started early, at 8:47 a.m. since the instructor said it would be a full day.
A full day it was, I barely left my seat to return a few calls out in the hallway, and it seemed we were back at it till lunch. After a quick lunch, I thought I could squeeze in an errand by filling up my tank in the remaining thirty-five minutes and rushed to my car. It was raining, not a torrential downpour but a steady rain. As I was leaving I noticed that one of the hotel staff I had talked to a couple of times was also leaving and looking like he was walking away. I could not let him get wet walking in a day like this, so, of course, I rolled down my window, and asked him where he was off to. He told me he had to go to the bank and was trying to do it during his lunch break. He was going to a CIBC branch and there was one on Yonge St that was just beyond my gas station. I asked him if I could drop him off, fill up, pick him back up and return, and he was very grateful. He got in my car and we both joked that we never seem to have umbrella's when we need them. I dropped him off, filled up my tank, doubled back and picked him up (he was waiting by the door) and returned back in plenty of time to re-join my class and for him to have a few more minutes before going back to work.
I am sure it was something most people would do, if they were to see someone they knew, I just saw him first =)
