Chris' Corner: Trade in your used plastic Wal-Mart bags for a FREE RE-USABLE Bag

Trade in your used plastic Wal-Mart bags for a FREE RE-USABLE Bag

My wife, Helen, told me about this one.

There is a sign up in the Alliston Wal-Mart and also in the Bradford Wal-Mart advertising a FREE Re-usable Shopping bag for anyone who brings in Thirty (30) of their own plastic bags.

I am not sure how far and wide this program is extending, but I will soon check in other local Wal-Marts and spread the news.

Using Re-usable shopping bags is an easy way to help Save Our Planet.  It is much better than using plastic bags, even if you re-cycle.  There is four or five re-usable bags in each of our cars (when we first started buying and using re-usable bags, we would often forget to take them back out to our cars and not have them handy when we needed them).

If this is a program initiated by Wal-Mart to raise awareness of the general public, I applaud them.

Look around your home, talk to your neighbours, accumulate thirty plastic Wal-Mart bags and trade them in for a FREE re-usable shopping bag!

Thanks for the tip.  I will see if the Walmart in the San Fernando Valley has the same promotion.  Seems easy to do.

What a wonderful idea Walmart!  I wonder if this is the beginning of a trend?  I hope Walmart adopts this policy in all of its stores.

Must be the local stores policy, it's not available here in Florida and I can't find a reference to the policy using google or Walmart's corporate site!

Hi Chris~ Sounds like a winning scenario to me! I love my reusable bags, and have quite a collection from Safeway to Whole Foods, even a Pike Place Market reusable!

Thanks for sharing a green thought for today!

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend Chris!

That is a super smart idea. I love it.  I wonder if they are doing here in NY too.  Smart move.

Hi Chris - I have not seen this program in any of the several Walmarts I shop at in the GTA.  Is it at the customer service counter?

However, a few years ago, before Toronto introduced the 5 cent bag by-law, one or two local Walmarts would take away the Walmart bag when you were doing returns and put it into a recycling container.

Ralph, even if they are not doing this, perhaps they will...

Steven, I could not find anything referencing it on the Wal-Mart Canada site either.  I will find out who initiated it and if it is local or a wider initiative

Marc, In Alliston it was by the customer service counter, in Bradford, there was a sign as you enter.
