We live on a rural road north of Tottenham Ontario. There are probably twelve homes dotted along the mile and a half stretch between Tottenham Road and Townline. People who make the choice to live in the country, do so for a variety of reasons, and one of them normally is to seek a sense of privacy rarely afforded in town.
That said, we also tend to support our neighbours, much like everyone else who knows and likes their neigbours would do. Our neighbour's lawn seemed to be longer than usual. We, on the other hand, tend to let our lawn grow longer and mow less often.
I saw the wife and mother addressing a flower bed when I drove home from work yesterday evening, and decided to walk through the trees (little need for any type of privacy fence) and talk with them. They told me that their lawn tractor was being repaired. We engaged in some small talk and I walked back and went inside about 8:45 p.m. last night.
This morning when I was mowing our lawn, I decided to help my neighbour out. I drove across and mowed their lawn for them. Their lot is regular, flat and treed only on the edges, so it is very easy to mow. It took me an additional thirty minutes to give it a quick cut and I managed to finish by 10:30 this morning. Now, if I was really feeling energetic, I would have gone out there and edged with the weed wacker, but that can take hours...
I hope that John and Anna feel good when they drive home tonight to see a fresh cut lawn, I know I do.
In my life, there have been many people who have helped me in so many ways on many occasions... One couple that immediately comes to my mind have been my friends for more than twenty years and I feel like they are my second family. I can never repay Al and Peggy Cunningham for all that they have done for me, so when I have the chance to help someone, anyone, even in a very small way, I will...
