I am a big "Pfann" of Peter and Linda, Realtors from Victoria BC, and fellow Active Rain Bloggers. This post of theirs outlines Basic Home Supplies we should have on hand. They have also included a recipe for a home made drain cleaner that you might be interested in...
Basic Home Maintenance Supplies.
In an earlier article we provided you with a list to create your own Basic Home Maintenance Toolkit,
However, the tools, a bit of time and common sense and a Honey Do List will allow you to complete about 1/2 of all the small and bigger projects around the house.
In addition to your Tools, a few books, the Internet etc. as resources, you will also need some Basic Home Maintenance Supplies in order to complete all of your regular monthly Home Maintenance Projects, as well as most emergency repairs.
You will also be much better prepared for the most common emergency repairs that will occur from time to time. Please also have a look at our How To Create A Home Maintenance Kit.
With all the various property types around, the need for some of the Basic Home Maintenance Supplies will be different for each home owner, your specific needs and your own comfort zone as to what type of project you will or will not tackle yourself.

Home Made Drain Cleaner (cheap, easy to make & apply)
1 cup (250 ml) Table Salt
1 cup (250 ml) Baking Soda
1/4 cup (65 ml) Cream of Tartar
Mix (dry) in a container (label and keep away from kids)
Once a month, use about 1/4 (65 ml) in each drain in the house, ad a cup (250 ml) of water
The concoction will bubble and fizz, once all done, run clean water to flush out the system.

So there you have it, like it or hate us, between this list of Basic Home Maintenance Supplies, Our Basic Home Maintenance Toolkit and our Monthly Maintenance Checklists, there is really no excuse anymore for not having and keeping your property as safe, tip top shape and you ready for any emergency as humanly possible.....
You will eventually get to complete all items on your "Honey Do Lists" and yes, we do believe in miracles........;0)
By the Way, if you come across a project that you know how to do but, are lacking the tools or equipment, please give Peter and Linda a call, we may have just the right tool or resource for you.
