Chris' Corner: Pay it Forward in Grocery Stores.

Pay it Forward in Grocery Stores.

We tend to do the majority of our grocery shopping Friday evening or Saturday morning, and most of the time, it is my wife Helen, that will shop alone.  On occasion, I will join her, as I did this morning.

The germ for this idea came from stores my mother would frequent when I was young.  One of them, and I cannot remember the store anymore, had a counter and cork-board as you entered where people could pick up and/or leave extra coupons.  I guess the idea stuck with me...

We will scour the advertisements and clip coupons in an effort to save money.  On and off for years now, we have clipped all the coupons we see, even those we do not intend to use, and take them to the local stores.  As we do our laps, when we see items we have coupons for, we leave the coupons on the shelf with the sale items.  This way someone coming after us that might want to buy the item we had a coupon for, can take advantage of the coupon and save some money.

This has become a habit with us, and very easily can become a habit for you, and is another way we can help out some of our neighbours.  Do you clip and use coupons?  If you do, it does not take any longer to clip the coupons that you will not use, and leaving them for others is such an easy thing to do.

Hi Chris,

Cool Idea, I will have a chat with Linda about this and see how we can implement this, seems like a simple little thing to do and help others (provided the stores leave the coupons on the shelves...

Thanks, Have a Pfantastic Week

This is a great idea....i will leave the coupon on the shelf if I decide not to buy the product but haven't thought of doing it with all sorts of coupons!

Chris, we and Helen amaze us. You come up with such unique ways to pay it forward...you're right this is very easy to do....and who would have thought it? Great idea!

Peter and Linda, I have seen some management in some stores take coupons away... but it really costs me nothing to do this but my time... and I have found that the Zehr's and the Foodland and the Sobey's nearby do not mind at all... I hope you have a Phantastic weekend =)

Deborah, most of us will clip a coupon or two if it is for something we want, this is just the next logical step...

Al and Peggy, we can't take the credit for this, I saw a store in North York, perhaps the Steinberg's at Finch and Islington (that is a name from the past)... do this when I was a kid... the way we figure, if they didn't want them used, they wouldn't print them...

That's a really cool way to pass some savings along to someone who could use them Chris. I had never even thought of doing something like this before. thanks for the great idea.

I've actually picked up and used coupons I've found on the shelf and I really appreciated it.
