Chris' Corner: Shedding "winter" weight? Drink water before meals!

Shedding "winter" weight? Drink water before meals!

A Recent clinical trial has confirmed, what seems common sense to most of us.

This twelve week study found that people that drank two-eight ounce glasses of water before meals three times a day lost, on average, about five pounds more than did dieters who did not drink the water first.

This, and similar previous studies have found that middle-aged and older people who consumed the requisite two glasses of water during the day consumed an average of 75 to 90 fewer calories per meal.

Two possible reasons for this that cross my mind are:
1) it may fill the stomach with 16 ounces of fluid that has zero calories;
2) by drinking zero calorie water, you might be consuming less caloric fluid alternatives;

If you, like me, need to lose some weight this spring, along with anything else you choose to do, do not forget this "oldie but goodie"

Drink two glasses of water before each and every meal.

Chris, even with two kids, 11 and 9 years old, the beverage of choice in our home is water. I think a couple of things are key in our kids preferring water: 1) Pop is never available in our home. 2) we use a good water filtration system in our home so the water always "tastes" pure. (obviously this means there is no taste at all)

You are very welcome James,

That saying sounds familiar to me, Al and Peggy, it seemed to work last time you told me...

Bob, glad to hear it.  As one parent of a six year old (almost seven) we have tried hard to form good habits, and no pop, no butter, are some of the better ones Alec has picked up.  I have a reusable water bottle with a filter in it that makes any water taste good.

Some things just make so much sense that they are often overlooked as viable options by people. More and more people are starting to turn to simple solutions like this one that have worked for eons.

Hi Chris - I have heard of that before but only with one glass of water.
