New "Life Blood" for the Circle Theatre in Alliston

Circle Theatre in Alliston, a local landmark, operating since before World War II, on the South Side of Victoria Street has a new Owner, Kate Vander Zaag.
Circle Theatre Alliston
Although I have never seen a movie at this local institution, my mother-in-law has seen many movies here with her friends over the years and has always enjoyed the experience.

There is a place for theatres like this in the day of Giant IMAX multi-theatre complexes.  I think it was during a 2003 vacation during which we stayed for a while in Bozeman, MT, that Helen and I saw Seabiscuit at the Ellen Theatre on Main St.  The movie experience was enhanced because we saw it, soaking up the atmosphere that comes from being in a historical building.

We will definitely support the Circle Theatre in Alliston when it re-opens.

Closed since October 2011, when long-time owner Scott MacDonald died, many in town were not hopeful that this intimate theatre would continue to exist.

The new owner has already started renovations on the building, both inside and out.  The roof, some seating and some cosmetic issues are being addressed.  Ms. Vander Zaag is also in the process of sourcing and acquiring a digital projector.

She has stated that she want to make the facility more accessible to the community and to be about more than just showing Hollywood films.  She has visions of a community resource for dance and music recitals, Schools to show student films, a possible venue for the Music Festival.

Stay tuned, I will continue to report on the progress until the Circle Theatre in Alliston re-opens.
